McCulloch Trailhead Repair
Trees can be a wonderful asset to the landscape, but their roots can cause problems for trail use and maintenance. For several years, Sycamore tree roots have created problems in the trail asphalt between the Cardinal Greenway trail and the White River trail, both located in Muncie, IN.
These two trails intersect at the McCulloch trailhead, located just northwest of the Cardinal Greenway trail headquarters at 700 E. Wysor St., Muncie, IN. If a person walked, ran or bicycled west on the White River trail, the trail user would very quickly experience these big, bumpy tree roots.
In October 2024, these big tree roots were cut out, and the trail repaved at the McCulloch trailhead. It was a cooperative venture between the Cardinal Greenway and White River organizations. The new asphalt pavement is great! We trail users are cheering!
