Cardinal Line April 2020

Cardinal Greenway Supporters,

We’re happy to see so many of you out using the Greenway during the Coronavirus pandemic. It’s more important than ever to remain active by exercising and taking care of your physical and mental health. We wanted to give you an update on how the Covid-19 situation is impacting the Greenway and what our current plans are to continue providing this free health and wellness resource for the many communities we serve over the 62 miles of the trail system.

We are still working hard to keep the Greenway clear and safe for all of our users so they can continue to enjoy this community treasure and have a safe, inviting place to walk, run, bicycle and spend time outside in nature being physically active. While we have closed our headquarters in the Muncie Depot our staff continues to work remotely to continue daily operations. Unfortunately, under the current conditions we’re unable to resume our free bike loaner program because of the temporary closure of the Depot. We look forward to providing another year of this service once it is safe to do so. We have also delayed the placement of the restrooms at our trailheads but they will return once they can safely be used.

To ensure the safety of our Maintenance staff and volunteers they will be modifying their work and focusing on keeping the trail free and clear of debris and obstructions and safe for all of you. We ask that if you encounter them while on the trail please practice the appropriate distancing for everyone’s safety. We have suspended any larger maintenance projects for the time being. We are also monitoring the Coronavirus situation and will continue to do so to determine the status of our annual events and whether they will be impacted.

Like all of you, we are assessing both the immediate and ongoing impacts this situation will have in regards to our resources. As a private, non-profit trail system, the Greenway relies on donors and supporters like you, private grants and our fundraising events and activities for 100% of our revenue and we receive no taxpayer funds. As this situation unfolds we will continue to assess and adjust our efforts and strategies in order to continue caring for and maintaining the Greenway so we can keep providing this free health and wellness opportunity for our communities.

We hope you continue taking advantage of the Cardinal Greenway for your outdoor activities during this time of uncertainty. Please do so while observing all local and national guidelines, including social distancing and any relevant travel restrictions. Because of increased use and the desire to reduce overcrowding and maintain desired spacing, you might consider utilizing different, less travelled segments of the Greenway. We encourage you to follow our Facebook page and/or website: cardinalgreenways.org for current updates and news on the Greenway. Thank you for your continued support and please stay safe and healthy.

Take Care,

Angie Pool, CEO
