Cardinal Line January 2019

2018 Year in Review

2018 was a very busy and historic year for the Greenway as we held a number of activities to celebrate our 25th anniversary.

We started off the year with our National Trails Day 5K run and walk. We had a great turnout on a beautiful day to help us kick off our event season.

July brought Bike Fest and a weekend full of activities including the Great Greenway Tour, downtown criterium race and guided tours.

In August we were named the 2018 inductee into the Rails to Trails Conservancy Hall of Fame. We received over half of the votes cast between the five trail systems and were honored to be chosen.

Rainy weather didn’t keep participants away from Walk Indiana. Several hundred people braved the bad conditions to walk the Cardinal and White River Greenways.

We had almost five hundred people start off their Thanksgiving Day with our annual Turkey Trot. They came out to walk or run before kicking off their holiday.

We closed out the year with a visit from Santa for Christmas at the Depot. We provided a special holiday surprise for almost seven hundred children.

Thanks to everyone for their support and participation over the course of the year. We’re already planning our events for 2019!

Volunteers Needed

It’s a big job taking care of 62 miles of trail so we’re always looking for additional help keeping the Greenway looking great. We have a variety of tasks for people to do including helping with maintenance, events and trail clean-up days. This is a great way for your business, church, school or other group to help the trail and give back to the community. You can volunteer for one time events or ongoing tasks depending on your interests and availability. For more information on volunteering and possible roles click here.

 Depot History

We’re very proud of our home at the historic Wysor St. Depot in Muncie. The building is over one hundred years old and contains a wealth of history dating back to it’s railroad days up until the present. Trail supporter Rick Fines compiled an extensive summary of the building’s past going back to it’s very beginning. You can find it here.
